On May 29, 2017 at 6:00 pm, at the La Lena Restaurant in Pine Mountain, the Center awarded the 2017 Humanitarian Award to Mel and Kathy Weinstein.
Mr. and Mrs. Weinstein began a Children's Photography Contest four years ago on the mountain that costs well over $800. Mel and Kathy Weinstein paid for the first two years of the Children's Photo Contest. For the past two years, the cost was assumed by the Friends of the Library, at our new and wonderful library in Frazier Park, CA. Every year there are two art shows for the children's photographs. At the second show, the public can buy a photo for $20, and the money goes directly to the young photographer (this year the public show is 5/13/17 at 5:00 pm at Artworks.) They are partners with two other mountain residents in opening the gallery - Artworks - in PMC. Also, the Weinstein's hold a party every year for Martin Luther King's birthday in January. They serve on a number of non-profit boards and assist with a program in Taft, CA that feeds homeless people every night. Mel also works tirelessly for veterans' organizations.
