The beauty of the world stems from its diverse environment, full of various types of people. Every person is composed of a list of personal qualities that shape who they are. Amongst one of the many wondrous qualities, compassion is the most important. To me, compassion means having the ability to pour all of your care and service into your surroundings. It means affiliating yourself with the emotions and struggles of the people and world you live in. It is the strength to go out of your way to help others, and doing everything you can to ensure the lives of the people around you benefit from your actions.

The old idiom “you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours” has been used and proven affective for years. This idiom suggests that if you do something for someone, in return, they will do something for you. Amazingly, this idiom is also a universal truth; it illustrates how life actually works. Compassionate people always lend a hand when they are needed. In return, the people they help are more than willing to repay their generosity and offer their support as well. If everyone learned to be a little bit more compassionate, the world would be full of people eager to extend their arm and help each other out. There would be no more struggle, as everyone would work together to work through conflicts. In this way, treating others with compassion would lead to a happier life.

We are all equipped with a conscience who does not let us forget when we do something that goes against our moral values. Our conscience often times is what pushes us into making righteous decisions. By being at peace with your conscience, your whole life is at complete peace. The only way to be at peace with your conscience is by being a compassionate person. Compassion makes people act in loving and helpful fashion, which makes their conscience happy. To be at peace with yourself and with others, you must make compassion a priority.
