Going through our daily lives, we see how inhumane the world has become. We all go
through deserts filled with tribulations, but it is essential to show compassion to others,
disregarding our deserts.
Encountering moments of financial despair, I had the opportunity to experience the
kindness of a person. That same kindness inspired me to exercise acts of goodliness and rescue
the wounded in my community. In my second year of high school, I developed an unstoppable
passion for becoming a changemaker and aiding families in my community. Therefore, I became
involved in student-led organizations such as Girl Up, where I led fundraisers and donation
campaigns to help girls in rural areas pursue their dreams by donating school supplies. I was
committed to nurturing low-resourced girls in Guatemala, as I helped them thrive for education
and made them acknowledge the potential they hold. I knew that showing this act of compassion
would help these girls work hard to get out of poverty and one day aids those in need and build a
stronger society.
Observing how many kids may not have a home to go to straight after school motivated
me to create a space of comfort for many of them. At Take Action Campaign Leadership, I
volunteered to coordinate events as I organized movie nights in which teenagers could develop
their social skills and have a good time. I also took the initiative to put together workshops in
which students can destress and distract from daily adversities, giving mental health a priority
over school work. My overall goal in organizing these activities was to provide kids with the
attention and support that they unfortunately do not receive at home. I know that this act of
kindness will elevate the kid’s self-esteem and acknowledge that there is someone who cares and
is proud of them, motivating them to later on provide that same bond and love in our society.
Through the Take Action Campaign, I was also able to organize annual toy drives, dog
food drives, canned and dry food drives, and hygiene drives. I helped provide donations like
these to our local shelters and families in our community because everyone deserves to be clean,
healthy, and well-fed! I desired and was able to give back the emotional support I received when
facing financial necessities during the holidays. I was able to give those gifts that made families
smile throughout the holidays by volunteering at these drives.
Trying my best to challenge myself academically by taking advanced placement classes
and dual enrollment, I knew that I had to set time apart to aid minority communities. Going
through the tribulations of a weak mental mindset, I knew that helping others would alleviate my
storm and make me stronger as a person. I will continue showing compassion in the world, to
better our society. I am determined to one day become an attorney and fight for people’s civil
rights and rescue people from injustices. I will be that good Samaritan who helps people acquire
their correspondent rights and grants them peace.
